Trade Multiple Accounts Simultaneously: Prop Firm Rules and Copiers

How to Trade Multiple Accounts Simultaneously at a Prop Firm

Most futures prop firms let you copy your own trades across your own accounts. The limits sit in the account cap, the direction rule and the account stage. This guide covers the three ways to do it, the rules at four firms, and what gets accounts closed.

By PropFirmReviews

You can trade multiple accounts simultaneously at most futures prop firms by copying your own trades from one lead account to follower accounts, as long as you stay under the firm’s account cap and never hedge between them. Owning every account gets you in the door, but it does not settle the question. The cap, the direction rule and the account stage decide whether the setup survives a payout review.

Can You Trade Multiple Prop Firm Accounts Simultaneously?

Yes, if every account is yours and every account trades the same direction. Ownership is the first test. The second is whether the accounts move in correlation with each other, because correlated accounts put the firm’s risk on one trade idea instead of spreading it.

Copying your own trades across accounts you personally own is allowed at the futures prop firms we checked. Apex Trader Funding’s help center allows copy trading across PA accounts under your personal and business name. Topstep builds a trade copier into TopstepX. But that permission comes with a ceiling. A firm lets one account lead and a set number of others follow, and stops there no matter how many accounts you hold. The number of accounts you own was never the limit. The number of accounts allowed to move in lockstep is.

Copying anyone else is a different category. That covers another trader’s account, a paid signal service and a trade-copying group. Firms call this group trading, and it is banned however the software is set up or the accounts are titled. FundedNext Futures bans signal services and group trading outright, even through automated tools. The rule targets the behavior, not the ownership structure behind it.

Why Ownership Was Never the Real Test

A firm’s evaluation model assumes each funded account represents an independent trading decision. Ten accounts opening the same position at the same size at the same second is not ten decisions. It is one decision wearing ten account numbers, and if that one decision is wrong, the firm’s exposure is ten times what the account structure implies. That is the risk the rule protects against, and it is why “I own all of them” does not settle the question the way traders expect it to.

Three Ways to Trade Multiple Accounts at Once

There are three ways to trade several accounts from one order: the firm’s own copier, the platform’s group trading feature, or a third-party trade copier. Each one reaches a different set of accounts. A tool that can connect to an account does not mean the firm allows it.

Method Example Where it works Prop firm check
Firm’s built-in copier TopstepX Trade Copier Topstep accounts inside TopstepX only Trading Combine and Express Funded Accounts only. Live Funded Accounts cannot use it.
Platform group trading Tradovate Group Trade Accounts held with the same brokerage provider, on Tradovate web and desktop No ATM strategies. Cannot link accounts from two different prop firms.
Third-party trade copier (futures) Replikanto (NinjaTrader 8), Tradesyncer (cloud), Tradecopia Across platforms and firms, depending on the connection (Tradovate, Rithmic, NinjaTrader, TopstepX) Every firm in the chain must allow it. The copier’s support list is not permission.
Third-party trade copier (MT4/MT5) Duplikium, Social Trader Tools MetaTrader accounts through a cloud service Some CFD firms ban cloud copiers. FundedNext names both tools as not allowed.

Size matters more than the tool. TopstepX says the lead account must have the lowest Maximum Position Size in the group, so with a 50K, a 100K and a 150K account, the 50K leads. Every follower still carries its own trailing drawdown and daily loss limit. Run each account size through the drawdown calculator before you set the copy ratio, because ES on a big account can mean MES on a small one.

On MetaTrader 4, the old route is MultiTerminal. Exness documents it as handling up to 128 real accounts, but only on the same trading server. That rules it out for accounts spread across different prop firms.

Prop Firm Rules for Trading Multiple Accounts

All four firms below allow copying between your own accounts. Each sets a cap on funded accounts, and three count every account in your household toward that cap. The conditions differ in ways that matter once a copier is running.

Firm Funded account cap Own-account copying Key condition Source Checked
Apex Trader Funding 20 active PAs per household, across Rithmic, Tradovate and WealthCharts. No limit on evaluations. Allowed All PAs trade the same direction. Each order is placed by hand in one originating account. Going over 20 means no payout. Apex help center, user agreement 21 Oct 2026
Topstep 5 active Express Funded Accounts Allowed TopstepX copier on Trading Combine and Express Funded Accounts only. A payout request unlinks followers. Topstep help center 21 Oct 2026
Tradeify 5 Simulated Funded Accounts per person and per household (up to 8 with V2 Select 300K) Allowed Only accounts you personally own and manage. All copied accounts trade the same direction. Tradeify help center 21 Oct 2026
FundedNext Futures 5 active FundedNext Accounts per user and per household. Max 10 issued per calendar month. Allowed Copying to your own accounts at other firms is allowed if every account is under the same verified name. No signal services. FundedNext Futures help center 21 Oct 2026

The household rule catches traders off guard. At Apex, a spouse’s accounts and an LLC’s accounts count toward the same 20. FundedNext Futures counts everyone sharing an address or IP as one household. If two traders live together, the cap is shared.

What Gets An Account Frozen

Three behaviors are named in firm rulebooks, separate from whether copying itself is allowed.

  • Holding conflicting positions across accounts, meaning long on one instrument in one account and short on the same or a correlated instrument in another. Apex says all PAs must trade in the same direction and not hedge against correlated assets. Tradeify adds that a lead account flattened while followers stay open creates opposing positions and counts as a hedging violation.
  • Sharing computers, IPs or devices with another trader. Apex’s prohibited activities page bans sharing MAC addresses, computers, IPs, credit cards, or trade copying with other traders, with account closure and forfeiture of funds as the result. MyFundedFutures bars two traders from using the same device.
  • Going over the account cap. Apex states that more than 20 active PAs makes you ineligible for payout and can lead to closure of all performance accounts.

Check the current rulebook before you build a workflow around this

Account caps, leader and follower rules, and household definitions are set by each firm and change without much notice. The table above was checked on 21 October 2026. Confirm the current version in the firm’s own terms before you commit capital.

How Detection Actually Works

Firms do not need a trader to admit to copy trading, because execution data can link accounts on its own. Most firms do not publish their full methods. These are the three signals that tie accounts together, and they work best in combination.

Signal What it shows Why it links accounts
Timestamp matching Accounts filling at almost the same moment, trade after trade Independent decisions do not keep landing that close together by chance
IP and device overlap Several accounts trading from the same network address or device Copy software runs from one machine even when accounts are titled separately
Position correlation Identical entry, size and exit across accounts over time A pattern that repeats across dozens of trades stops looking like coincidence

At least one firm spells this out. FundedNext’s CFD help center says it checks for matching entry price, exit price, lot size, symbol and trade time across accounts, using automated systems and manual review. That is why staggering entries by a few seconds does not break the link when the other two signals still line up. On your own accounts at a firm that allows copying, there is nothing to hide. Between different traders, there is no setup that makes it allowed.

The Part Traders Underestimate

Copy trading across accounts does not multiply your upside without multiplying your downside in the same step, and the downside is where most traders miscalculate.

A single rule violation, bad trade, or emotional decision does not cost you one account when every account is copying the same trade. It costs every account in the chain, at the same moment, for the same reason.

The mechanic every copy trading setup shares

Guides to “scaling with copy trading” tend to skip this trade-off. Running five funded accounts independently means five separate tests of your edge. Running five accounts copying one trade means one test of your edge, with the payout multiplied five times if it works and the loss multiplied five times if it does not. The accounts stopped being independent risk the moment they started copying each other, whether or not the firm’s copy trading rule was technically satisfied.

Rules hit the whole group on the same day too. A consistency rule breach or a daily loss limit lands on every copied account at once. On TopstepX, a follower without its own Personal Daily Loss Limit mirrors the lead, so a Daily Loss Limit hit on the lead liquidates the followers as well.

What To Check Before You Set It Up

  • Whether the firm names a funded account cap, whether it counts your household, and whether that cap is lower than the number of accounts you plan to hold.
  • Whether the account stage is eligible. TopstepX copies between Trading Combine and Express Funded Accounts, but Live Funded Accounts cannot use the copier.
  • Whether the firm bans conflicting positions across your own accounts, and how it treats mini against micro contracts on the same product.
  • Whether the firm counts shared addresses, IPs or devices as one household, since copy software often runs from one machine for every account it feeds.
  • Whether payout is paid per account or held for review when linked accounts request payout in the same window. TopstepX unlinks followers automatically when a payout request goes in. See how payout gating works before you plan withdrawals across a group.

FAQ

Can I trade multiple prop firm accounts at the same time?

Yes, at most futures prop firms, as long as you own every account and they all trade the same direction. Apex, Topstep, Tradeify and FundedNext Futures all allow copying between your own accounts. Each one caps how many funded accounts you can hold, and three of them count your whole household toward that cap.

Is copy trading allowed by prop firms?

Copying your own trades usually is. Copying someone else is not. Firms treat signal services, trade-copying groups and shared accounts as group trading and ban them. FundedNext Futures bans signal services even when an automated tool places the trades. Apex lists trade copying with other traders as grounds for closure and forfeiture of funds.

Can I use a trade copier across multiple prop firms?

Only if every firm in the chain allows it. FundedNext Futures permits copying to your own accounts at other firms if all accounts are under the same verified name. Apex’s user agreement limits copying to accounts solely owned and controlled by you, so confirm with Apex before linking an outside account. Tradovate Group Trade cannot link two different firms.

Does Topstep allow copy trading between your own accounts?

Yes, through the TopstepX Trade Copier. It copies between Trading Combine and Express Funded Accounts, but Live Funded Accounts cannot use it. The lead must have the lowest Maximum Position Size in the group. Followers are unlinked automatically when you submit a payout request, so check your copier settings at the start of each session.

How many funded accounts can I have with one prop firm?

It depends on the firm. Apex allows 20 active PAs per household. Topstep allows 5 active Express Funded Accounts. Tradeify allows 5 Simulated Funded Accounts per person and household, or up to 8 with V2 Select 300K. FundedNext Futures allows 5 active FundedNext Accounts per user and household. Evaluation limits are usually looser.

Can I trade the same strategy on all my accounts?

Yes, if every account stays on the same side of the market and you size each one to its own limits. The catch is risk: one bad trade hits every account at once. On TopstepX, accounts on different Scaling Plan tiers can disconnect from the copier at the start of a new day, so check the group daily.

Compare Rules Before You Scale Across Accounts

Account caps, direction rules and payout gating differ by firm and change often. See how the futures prop firms we track handle multi-account rules before you build a copy trading setup around any of them.
