What is a crypto prop firm?

A crypto prop firm funds your crypto trading after a paid evaluation. You trade BTC, ETH and altcoin pairs with the firm’s capital, hit a profit target without breaching the drawdown, and keep 70% to 90% of profits, usually paid in USDT or USDC. The catch: this category has more variance in what you are actually trading than any other we cover — some firms route orders to real exchanges, most simulate fills against a price feed.

Real execution vs simulated fills

Most crypto prop firms run crypto CFDs or simulated accounts priced from live data: your order never reaches an exchange. A smaller group executes on real venues or aggregated exchange liquidity. Both models can pay, but they differ in slippage, available pairs, funding rates and how the firm makes money. A firm that profits from your losses on a simulated book has a different incentive than one clearing real flow. Every review on this page states which model the firm runs.

How the evaluation works

1. Buy a challengeOne-time fees from roughly $45 to over $1,000 by account size. A few firms bill monthly
2. Hit the profit targetCommonly 8% to 33% depending on the model. Anything above 20% in one phase is aggressive
3. Stay inside the limitsDaily loss limits of 4% to 15% and max drawdowns of 8% to 25%. Trailing drawdowns exist here too
4. Get fundedSplits run 70% to 90%. Payout cycles range from on-demand to bi-weekly, usually settled in stablecoins
5. Watch the crypto-specific rulesWeekend trading is normally allowed since crypto never closes, but funding-rate handling, leverage caps and token gimmicks vary widely

What to check before you pay

Real execution or simulation?Ask where your order goes. If the answer is vague, assume simulation
Payout evidenceA few firms in this category have blockchain-verified payout records via third-party trackers. Most have nothing
Trustpilot integrityMore than one crypto firm has had its Trustpilot rating removed or flagged for fake reviews. Check the live profile, not the number on the firm’s homepage
Leverage and pairs1:2 to 1:5 on majors is typical for real-execution firms. CFD-feed firms often offer more
Token or launchpad attached?A firm running its own token sale alongside a funding product carries a different risk profile

Crypto prop firm FAQ

What is a crypto prop firm?
A crypto prop firm funds traders on cryptocurrency pairs after a paid evaluation. You trade BTC, ETH and altcoins with the firm’s capital, pass a profit target without breaching drawdown limits, and keep 70% to 90% of profits, usually paid in USDT or USDC. Some firms route orders to real exchanges while most simulate fills against live price feeds.
Do crypto prop firms use real exchanges?
Most do not. The majority simulate your fills against live market data, so your order never reaches an exchange. A smaller group executes on real venues or aggregated exchange liquidity from providers connected to Binance, OKX or Bybit. Both models can pay traders, but slippage, available pairs and the firm’s own incentives differ, so check which model a firm runs before buying.
How are crypto prop firm payouts made?
Almost all crypto prop firms pay in stablecoins, typically USDT or USDC on major networks, with some also offering bank transfer. Cycles range from on-demand with settlement in hours to bi-weekly. Blockchain-settled payouts are also the easiest to verify independently: third-party trackers have confirmed on-chain payout records for a small number of firms in this category.
Can you trade crypto prop firm accounts on weekends?
Usually yes, because crypto markets never close. That is a real advantage over CFD and futures prop firms, most of which force positions flat before weekends. Check the specific firm’s rules on funding-rate handling and overnight leverage, which vary more than the weekend policy itself.
Are crypto prop firms legit?
The category is younger and rougher than forex or futures. A few firms have verifiable on-chain payout records, while others have had Trustpilot ratings removed for fake reviews or carry unresolved non-payment complaints, and several advertise ratings their live profiles do not support. Check the firm’s review here for its execution model, payout evidence and any caution flag before paying.
