Lucid Trading vs TopStep
Lucid Trading launched in 2025 and scores 8.4. TopStep launched in 2012 and scores 7.2. Lucid wins all six dimensions, and on two of them the margin is large: payouts 9.0 to 6.5 and platform 9.0 to 7.5.
The headline claim is the payout speed. Lucid reports withdrawals averaging around fifteen minutes from request to receipt. If that holds, it is the fastest payout operation in futures prop trading. The honest caveat is that Lucid is barely a year old with 3,800 reviews, against TopStep’s fourteen years and 13,800.
Pick Lucid Trading if
You trade news, you scalp, or you want your money back the same hour. Lucid allows NFP, FOMC and CPI trading, has no minimum hold time, uses end-of-day drawdown on every program, and has no daily loss limit at either stage.
Pick TopStep if
You want a firm with a long, checkable payout history rather than a fast one with a short one. TopStep has paid over $1.4 billion since 2012 and pays more than 7,000 traders a week.
Lucid Trading scores 8.4. TopStep scores 7.2. Lucid wins every dimension: payouts 9.0 to 6.5, platform 9.0 to 7.5, rules 8.5 to 7.5, cost 8.3 to 7.5, support 8.3 to 7.0 and transparency 7.5 to 7.5 on a tie. The payout and platform gaps carry the result.

The rules Lucid does not impose
Lucid runs no daily loss limit in either stage, evaluation or funded. TopStep imposes $1,000 to $3,000 depending on account size. For a futures trader, the daily loss limit is usually the most punishing rule in the book, and Lucid simply does not have one.
Lucid uses end-of-day drawdown on all current programs, never intraday. TopStep also uses end-of-day trailing, so this is a tie on model, but Lucid pairs it with the absent daily limit, which makes the overall risk envelope considerably more forgiving.
News trading is allowed, including NFP, FOMC and CPI. Scalping is allowed with no minimum hold time. Those two together make Lucid unusually permissive for a futures firm, and they are the clearest reason to choose it over TopStep for an active intraday trader.
Fifteen minute payouts, and what to make of that claim
Lucid reports payouts averaging around fifteen minutes from request to receipt, and allows withdrawals as often as every three days once past the buffer, at a 90% split on all funded accounts. TopStep pays weekly at 90/10.
Fifteen minutes would be the fastest in the category by a wide margin. We scored payout reliability 9.0 on that basis and on the absence of denial complaints, but it is worth being clear about what that score rests on: speed and terms, not years of history. Lucid has been operating since 2025.
TopStep’s 6.5 is not a claim that it fails to pay. It has paid over $1.4 billion and pays thousands of traders weekly. It scores lower because weekly is slower than three-daily, and because its own review base reflects a harder, more frustrating product.
The limits worth knowing before you buy Lucid
Three things constrain it. The largest account is $150,000, matching TopStep’s ceiling, so neither suits a trader wanting size beyond that.
Consistency rules apply during the evaluation and on payout cycles. TopStep applies a 50% best-day cap against the profit target during the Combine. Neither firm lets one outsized session carry you through unchallenged.
LucidFlex carries progressive payout caps before live capital, and all positions must be closed by 4:45pm EST daily. That last one rules out overnight holds entirely, where MyFundedFutures for instance permits them. If you swing futures positions, Lucid is the wrong firm regardless of its score.
Age is the real argument for TopStep
Lucid holds 4.6 out of 5 from about 3,800 reviews after roughly a year. TopStep holds 3.4 from about 13,800 across fourteen years.
Lucid’s rating is much better and its terms are much better. What it cannot offer is time. A payout operation that has run for one year under favourable growth conditions has not been tested the way one that has run since 2012 has. We think Lucid is the stronger firm today and scored it accordingly, but a trader who wants a record they can dig through has a defensible reason to pick TopStep.
This is also why Lucid ties rather than wins on transparency at 7.5. Good terms, clearly stated, but not yet much history to check them against.

Frequently asked questions
Is Lucid Trading or TopStep better?
Lucid Trading scores 8.4 against TopStep’s 7.2 and wins every dimension, with the widest gaps on payouts and platform at 9.0 to 6.5 and 9.0 to 7.5. TopStep’s only real advantage is age: fourteen years of operation and $1.4 billion paid, against Lucid’s single year. If you want a long checkable record rather than better terms, that is a defensible reason to choose TopStep.
Does Lucid Trading really pay out in 15 minutes?
That is the firm’s reported average from request to receipt, and it can be requested as often as every three days once past the buffer, at a 90% split. It would be the fastest in futures prop trading. Our 9.0 payout score reflects that speed and the absence of denial complaints, but it rests on terms rather than on years of history, since Lucid has only operated since 2025.
Does Lucid Trading have a daily loss limit?
No, in neither the evaluation nor the funded stage. TopStep imposes $1,000 to $3,000 depending on account size. The daily loss limit is usually the most punishing rule in futures prop trading, so its absence is one of the strongest points in Lucid’s favour.
Can you trade news and scalp at Lucid?
Yes to both. News trading is allowed including NFP, FOMC and CPI, and scalping is permitted with no minimum hold time. That combination is unusually permissive for a futures firm and is the clearest reason for an active intraday trader to prefer it over TopStep.
Can you hold Lucid positions overnight?
No. All positions must be closed by 4:45pm EST each day. If your strategy involves holding futures positions overnight or across weekends, Lucid rules that out entirely, and you should look at a firm like MyFundedFutures that permits it.
Is Lucid Trading too new?
It launched in 2025 and has around 3,800 reviews at 4.6, against TopStep’s 13,800 at 3.4 over fourteen years. Its terms and its rating are both better, but it has not been tested across a long period or a difficult market. It ties TopStep on transparency at 7.5 for exactly that reason: clear terms, limited history to check them against.
