MyFundedFutures vs TopStep

TopStep has been running since 2012 and has paid traders over $1.4 billion. MyFundedFutures launched in 2023. On paper that should not be close, and it is not: MyFundedFutures wins all six of our dimensions and takes 7.9 against 7.2.

The Trustpilot gap is starker still, 4.9 out of 5 from 20,000 reviews against 3.4 from 13,800. But TopStep holds one advantage that matters a great deal to a specific kind of trader, and it is not one you would guess from the scores.

Pick MyFundedFutures if

You want faster access to your money, a firm with a current reputation rather than a historical one, and the option to hold overnight and through weekends. The Rapid plan pays from day one.

Pick TopStep if

You want to pass fast. TopStep has no minimum trading days at all, where MyFundedFutures asks for eight on its Standard and Rapid plans. If you can hit the target in a week, TopStep lets you and MyFundedFutures does not.

The minimum trading days rule flips this for fast traders

TopStep imposes no minimum trading days in the Trading Combine. Hit the target cleanly in three sessions and you are through. MyFundedFutures requires eight minimum trading days on its Standard and Rapid plans.

For a trader who reaches a profit target quickly, that is eight days of exposure to a trailing drawdown they did not need to take. Every extra session is another chance to breach a limit on an account you had already effectively passed. This is the strongest argument for TopStep in this pairing, and it is worth more than a 0.7 gap in the headline score if it describes how you trade.

Payouts: 8.0 against 6.5

This is the widest dimension gap. MyFundedFutures offers day-one payouts on its Rapid plan, up to a 90% split, and auto-scaling after three profitable cycles. TopStep pays weekly and reports more than 7,000 traders paid each week, which is a real operational record, but nothing comparable to a day-one withdrawal.

The caveat is that day-one payouts are Rapid only. Buy a Standard plan expecting them and you will not get them. Check which plan you are on before you budget around it.

TopStep also charges an activation fee on the standard path after you pass, on top of the monthly subscription. Both firms bill monthly until you pass, so a slow pass is expensive at either.

Both use trailing drawdown, and neither is generous about it

TopStep runs an end-of-day trailing drawdown that follows your equity high and tightens as you profit. It is the most common complaint about the firm and it is a fair one.

MyFundedFutures runs trailing drawdown on all plans, so there is no route to a static limit there either. Neither offers what Bulenox does, a choice between intraday and end-of-day models.

Where MyFundedFutures pulls ahead is what you can do inside those limits: overnight and weekend holds are allowed on Standard and Rapid. That matters for swing approaches in futures and is a genuine structural advantage.

Why TopStep holds a 3.4 and MyFundedFutures a 4.9

A 4.9 from 20,172 reviews against a 3.4 from 13,800 is a very large gap, and it deserves an honest reading rather than being used as a bludgeon.

TopStep has operated for fourteen years and runs a hard evaluation. Firms that fail more traders over a longer period accumulate more angry reviews, and much of TopStep’s negative volume is about difficulty rather than non-payment. Its payout operation is real and documented.

That said, a 4.9 across 20,000 reviews is not something a firm manufactures at that scale, and MyFundedFutures earned it in three years. Our payout dimension separates them 8.0 to 6.5 on evidence rather than sentiment, and the sentiment happens to point the same way.

Platforms and instruments

MyFundedFutures scores 8.5 on platform with four choices including NinjaTrader and TradingView. TopStep scores 7.5 with TopstepX, NinjaTrader, TradingView and Quantower. Both are workable, and MyFundedFutures gives slightly more room to keep an existing setup.

Both are futures only. Neither offers forex, CFDs, stocks or crypto. If you want anything beyond futures, this pair is the wrong place to look.

Frequently asked questions

Is MyFundedFutures or TopStep better?

MyFundedFutures scores 7.9 against TopStep’s 7.2 and wins all six dimensions, with the widest gap on payouts at 8.0 to 6.5. The exception is speed of passing: TopStep has no minimum trading days while MyFundedFutures requires eight on Standard and Rapid. If you expect to hit the target quickly, TopStep is the better structure despite the lower score.

Does MyFundedFutures really pay on day one?

On the Rapid plan, yes. It is not available on the Standard plan, so check which one you are buying. TopStep pays weekly and reports over 7,000 traders paid each week, which is reliable but not same-day.

Which has the harder drawdown rule?

Both use trailing drawdown and neither offers a static alternative. TopStep’s end-of-day trailing drawdown is its most complained-about rule because it tightens as you profit. MyFundedFutures applies trailing drawdown across all plans. On this specific point there is no meaningful winner.

Can you hold futures positions overnight at either firm?

MyFundedFutures allows overnight and weekend holds on its Standard and Rapid plans, which is a real advantage for swing approaches in futures. That flexibility is one of the clearer structural differences between the two.

Why is TopStep’s Trustpilot score so much lower?

TopStep holds 3.4 from about 13,800 reviews against MyFundedFutures’ 4.9 from 20,172. TopStep has operated since 2012 and runs a difficult evaluation, so it has accumulated far more complaints about failing than a three-year-old firm has had time to. Much of that volume is about difficulty rather than non-payment. It is still a large gap and we scored payouts 8.0 to 6.5 accordingly.

Do either of them offer forex?

No. Both are futures only, with no forex, CFDs, stocks or crypto. If you want to trade across asset classes with one firm, look at a CFD firm that also runs futures accounts instead.
